In retrospect, we think we know what the Y2K scare was really about: No-surname-necessary teenpop vixens Britney and Xtina begat no-surname-necessary teenpop vixen rip-offs Mandy and Jessica. Rightfully, the end of the world seemed nigh. But then Ms. Moore had to go and get interesting on us in the new millennium, starring as a proto-Heather in underrated indie satire Saved! then Vincent Chase's crush in Entourage. As for the tunes, she proclaimed her saccharine early material "sucked" and started developing a more refined, folksy persona. She secures guest spots from Chantal Kreviazuk, Rachael Yamagata and Lori McKenna on this fifth album, successfully obliterating her back catalogue. That said, any time she wants to break out "Candy," we're all tongue' er, ears.
